TLDR The study made scar tissue transparent to better understand its structure.
This study explores the application of tissue clearing techniques on human skin and scar tissue to better understand the atypical structure of abnormal scars, which are a common concern in plastic surgery. By using the iDISCO+ method, researchers successfully rendered skin and scar samples optically transparent. The process involves chemical treatments to remove light-blocking components and immersion in a clearing liquid to achieve a uniform refractive index. The study aims to refine the protocol by examining each stage of the clearing process and testing various antibodies for immunostaining, ultimately to identify changes in scar tissue structures.
