TLDR Sunscreen use is linked to frontal fibrosing alopecia, especially in males.
This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the association between frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and the use of personal care products, specifically sunscreen and moisturizer, as well as hair styling tendencies. Analyzing nine studies, the results showed a significant positive association between FFA and sunscreen use, with both males and females affected. The association with facial moisturizer was significant only in males. No significant associations were found between FFA and hair dye, perming, straightening, or traction hairstyles. The study highlights the potential link between FFA and certain personal care products, particularly sunscreen, while hair styling practices appear unrelated.
