A pilot study to explore postpartum body image and resumed menstruation

This pilot study involving 11 UK mothers examined postpartum body image and the resumption of menstruation, revealing themes of body dissatisfaction and identity loss due to physical changes like weight gain and hair loss. The return of menstruation was both a health marker and a source of stress. Participants expressed a need for better healthcare guidance and support. The study suggests that reframing body attitudes towards functionality, along with self-compassion and cognitive-behavioral interventions, could improve postpartum wellbeing and body confidence. Limitations included a small sample size and lack of diversity, indicating the need for broader research.
