TLDR Using a laser helmet with Minoxidil works better for male hair loss than Minoxidil alone, with no extra side effects.
The study assessed the combination of 678nm helmet-type low-level laser therapy (LLLT) with topical Minoxidil 5% against topical Minoxidil 5% alone in treating male androgenetic alopecia in 24 male adults. The combination therapy group showed a significant increase in hair density with mean increases of 14.6 and 15.1 on the right and left sides, respectively, compared to 5.8 and 5.5 in the monotherapy group. Global photographic assessment by investigators and patient satisfaction were also significantly higher in the combination therapy group. Both treatments were well tolerated with no significant difference in side effects. The study concludes that the combination of LLLT and Minoxidil is an effective treatment for male androgenetic alopecia, with higher satisfaction rates and no significant increase in adverse events, despite the small sample size.

Key treatments for hair preservation include minoxidil, finasteride/dutasteride, and microneedling, with additional options like specific shampoos, oils, biotin, zinc, tretinoin, clascoterone, and low-level laser therapy. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reducing stress, and addressing nutrient deficiencies can also support hair health.
