TLDR Interest in Acanthosis nigricans research is growing, highlighting key focus areas and influential work.
The bibliometric analysis of 1,675 publications on Acanthosis Nigricans (AN) from 1900 to 2024 highlights a significant increase in research, particularly after 1992, with the USA leading in publication volume and influence. The study identifies key research trends, such as the association of AN with metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, obesity, and diabetes, and emphasizes the importance of understanding these connections for advancing diagnosis and treatment strategies. The University of Texas System is noted as the most prolific institution, and the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism has the highest number of related publications and citations. Despite advancements, AN remains challenging to cure, prompting ongoing research for more effective therapies. The analysis also notes potential limitations due to its reliance on the Web of Science Core Collection and English-language publications.
