TLDR Light and laser therapies show promise for treating Acne Keloidalis Nuchae, but more research is needed.
The systematic review of treatments for Acne Keloidalis Nuchae (AKN) indicated that traditional medical treatments like antibiotics and steroids often had incomplete results and frequent recurrences, while surgical options, though effective, were invasive. Light and laser therapies, such as the 1064-nm Nd:YAG and 810-nm diode lasers, showed promising results with 82-95% improvement in 1-5 sessions and minimal side effects, but these findings were based on small studies. The review concluded that larger-scale randomized trials were needed to establish effective treatment protocols, as complete resolution of AKN was rare and treatment choice depended on lesion severity and characteristics.
