TLDR Stem cell-derived cytokines and growth factors may be a promising alternative for treating hair loss.
This review discusses the potential of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell-derived cytokines and growth factors in managing androgenetic alopecia, a common form of hair loss affecting both men and women. Current FDA-approved treatments, minoxidil and finasteride, often yield unsatisfactory results, prompting interest in stem cell-based regenerative medicine. The therapeutic effects of stem cells are primarily mediated through their secretions, known as the secretome, which includes paracrine and trophic actions. The review suggests that these stem cell-derived cytokines and growth factors offer promising outcomes and should be considered as an alternative to conventional therapies for androgenetic alopecia.
