Evaluation of Structural Changes Involving the Emergence of Adipose Tissue in Abnormal Locations and Displacement of Sweat Glands in Three Primary Lymphocytic Scarring Alopecias
This study investigated the presence of adipose tissue in abnormal locations and the displacement of eccrine glands in 3 types of primary lymphocytic scarring alopecias: frontal fibrosing alopecia, androgenetic pattern fibrosing alopecia, and lichen planopilaris. The study involved 71 women aged 36 to 80. Findings showed that these histopathological features were present in all 3 alopecias but were more common in frontal fibrosing alopecia and cases with more fibrous tracts and perifollicular changes. However, these features did not significantly aid in distinguishing between the types of alopecia. Further research is needed to understand the role of adipocytes and eccrine gland displacement in disease progression and treatment.
