TLDR Aegle marmelos fruit extract can protect against arsenic toxicity in mice.
The study investigated the effects of Aegle marmelos fruit extract on mice experiencing sub-acute sodium arsenite toxicity. Sixty BALB/c mice were divided into five groups, with one group receiving both sodium arsenite and A. marmelos extract. Arsenic exposure led to symptoms like decreased activity, anorexia, diarrhea, and alopecia, along with increased hemoglobin, packed cell volume, and erythrocyte count, likely due to dehydration. Elevated levels of serum enzymes indicated liver and kidney damage. However, co-administration of A. marmelos extract mitigated these toxic effects, reducing liver and kidney damage and normalizing serum enzyme levels, suggesting its protective potential against arsenic toxicity.
