TLDR AI chatbots can help with scabies education but shouldn't replace doctors.
This study evaluates the effectiveness of three AI chatbots—ChatGPT-5.2, DeepSeek, and Claude Sonnet 4.5—in providing patient education on scabies. ChatGPT-5.2 scored highest in reliability and readability, while DeepSeek excelled in overall quality and accuracy. However, Claude Sonnet 4.5 had the highest hallucination rate, with citation errors in 25% of responses. The study highlights the potential of AI tools in patient education but emphasizes the variability in performance and the importance of healthcare professional oversight to prevent misinformation and inappropriate self-management. AI should complement, not replace, human expertise in dermatology.
