Epidemiology of Alopecia Areata in Baqubah City, Diyala, Iraq

    TLDR Alopecia areata is more common in young males and often linked to stress.
    The study conducted at Baquba Teaching Hospital aimed to determine the prevalence and causative factors of alopecia areata in Baqubah city. It involved 100 patients, with a higher prevalence observed in males (71%) and the age group of 21-30 years. The most common manifestation was a single patchy lesion, primarily on the head, with a recurrence history in 55% of cases. Additionally, 64% of patients reported a personal history of stress, suggesting a link between psychological stress and alopecia areata. The study highlights the significance of psychological factors in the prevalence of this condition.
