Alopecia Areata Possibly Secondary to COVID-19 Vaccine

    TLDR COVID-19 vaccines might cause hair loss, but JAK inhibitors can help regrow hair.
    A 56-year-old Black man developed alopecia areata after receiving COVID-19 vaccinations (Johnson & Johnson followed by Pfizer). Initial treatments were ineffective, but significant hair regrowth occurred after 9 months of treatment with oral baricitinib, a JAK inhibitor. This case suggests a potential link between COVID-19 vaccines and autoimmune hair loss, emphasizing the need for clinician awareness and highlighting the efficacy of JAK inhibitors in treating refractory alopecia areata cases.
