TLDR Alopecia areata significantly affects emotional well-being and quality of life, especially in younger adults.
This study assessed the impact of alopecia areata (AA) on the quality of life (QoL) of 154 adults in Bangladesh, revealing significant QoL impairment, particularly in the emotional dimension. The study found that disease severity was linked to social functioning and emotional distress, with hair loss and being under 40 years old identified as risk factors for poorer QoL. Compared to other skin diseases, AA patients reported better QoL than those with atopic dermatitis. The findings highlighted the need for physicians to focus on the QoL of AA patients to better understand the disease burden.
