TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment of alopecia in children are crucial for their well-being.
The review discussed the challenges and importance of diagnosing and treating alopecia in children, emphasizing the significant physical and psychological impacts of hair loss on their development. It highlighted that most alopecia cases in children are non-scarring, though cicatricial alopecia can occur. Diagnosis typically involved direct scalp examination, with additional tools like potassium hydroxide examination, woods lamp examination, and trichoscopy. In cases of suspected cicatricial alopecia, a scalp biopsy was recommended. The review focused on various treatment options, their safety, and efficacy, stressing the importance of early disease-specific treatment and adequate counseling for patients and their parents.
