TLDR Children's books on alopecia and trichotillomania often miss important treatment information.
This study evaluates 34 children's books on alopecia and trichotillomania, focusing on their adherence to treatment guidelines from the American Academy of Dermatology and the American Journal of Psychiatry. The analysis reveals that while these books are available and cover emotional and social aspects, they inadequately address recommended treatments. Specifically, 35.5% of alopecia books mention some AAD-recommended treatments, but none include minoxidil or JAK inhibitors, and 33.3% of trichotillomania books discuss psychotherapy without mentioning pharmacotherapy. The study highlights the need for more comprehensive literature to improve clinical outcomes and enhance the quality of life for affected children.
