An Overview of the Fenugreek (Trigonella Foenum– Graecum) Seed Oil in Hair Care Applications

Fenugreek seed oil, derived from Trigonella foenum-graecum, is gaining attention in hair care for its potential benefits in promoting hair growth, preventing hair loss, reducing dandruff, and conditioning hair. The seeds are rich in proteins, steroidal saponins, polyphenols, fibers, flavonoids, alkaloids, vitamins, and essential fatty acids, which contribute to their therapeutic properties. Various extraction methods, including cold pressing, solvent extraction, and infusion in carrier oils, are used to produce fenugreek oil. This review discusses the phytochemistry, preparation methods, applications, and therapeutic benefits of fenugreek-based hair oil, emphasizing its safety and potential in cosmetic and pharmaceutical formulations.
