Frequency of Androgenic Alopecia in Patients Presenting with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome at Tertiary Care Hospital Karachi

    TLDR Many women with PCOS have hair loss, linked to age, hirsutism, sleep issues, and smoking.
    In a study conducted at PNS Shifa Hospital in Karachi, 135 women with PCOS were examined for androgenic alopecia, revealing a high prevalence of 83%. The study found significant associations between androgenic alopecia and factors such as age over 30, hirsutism, sleep disturbances, and smoking. Elevated LDL was identified as an independent predictor, while serum androgen levels were not significantly correlated. The findings suggest that early dermatological screening in PCOS patients could help identify underlying metabolic and psychosocial risks.
