Androphenotypic Features in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

    TLDR Men with baldness, ear creases, and hairy ears have a higher risk of heart disease.
    In a study conducted in 2019, 166 men with coronary artery disease (CAD) and 160 healthy males were evaluated for the association of certain physical features with CAD. The study found that androgenetic alopecia (AGA), diagonal earlobe crease (DEC), and hairy ear (HE) were significantly more frequent in patients with CAD. The risk of CAD increased with the severity of AGA. However, thoracic hairiness and hair greying were not significantly associated with CAD risk. The strongest predictors of CAD were DEC, AGA, and HE with odds ratios of 5.19, 3.69, and 1.99, respectively. The study concluded that AGA, HE, and DEC were significantly associated with the risk of CAD in the Turkish population.
