TLDR EPC-CM can reduce skin aging signs by boosting the skin's defense system.
The study established epidermal progenitor cells derived from mesenchymal stem cells and evaluated the anti-aging efficacy of their conditioned medium (EPC-CM). In vitro tests showed that EPC-CM protected fibroblasts from oxidative stress by reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and maintaining antioxidative enzyme activities, collagen biosynthesis, and MAPK signaling. A clinical test with 25 Korean women aged 29 to 69 demonstrated that a cosmetic essence containing 5% EPC-CM improved wrinkles, depression, and skin texture within 4 weeks. The findings suggested that EPC-CM could improve signs of skin aging by activating the cellular defense system.
