TLDR Compounds from Monascus purpureus showed mild antifungal effects.
The study explores the antifungal properties of secondary metabolites from the mangrove-derived fungus Monascus purpureus WMD2424, identifying five new compounds. These compounds were tested against four fungal strains, showing varying degrees of antifungal activity. Notably, compound 3 demonstrated significant inhibition against Candida albicans with a MIC of 32.87 μg/mL, although none matched the efficacy of the control antifungal agent, ketoconazole. The research underscores the potential of these metabolites for antifungal applications, suggesting further investigation to improve their effectiveness.
