Assessment Of the Relation of Serum Adiponectin Level With Alopecia Areata

This study investigated the relationship between serum adiponectin levels and alopecia areata (AA) in 48 participants, including 24 AA patients and 24 healthy controls. Results showed no significant difference in serum adiponectin levels between the AA and control groups. However, a strong negative correlation was found between serum adiponectin levels and both the SALT score and the mean size of patches in AA patients, suggesting that lower adiponectin levels are associated with more severe hair loss. This indicates that adiponectin may play a role in the pathogenesis of AA and could serve as a marker for the severity of hair loss.
