Frequency of Autoimmune Disorders in Patients of Alopecia Areata: A Cross-Sectional Survey

    TLDR Alopecia areata patients often have autoimmune disorders, especially thyroid issues.
    The study surveyed 200 alopecia areata patients, revealing that 25% had autoimmune disorders. Hypothyroidism was the most common, affecting 15% of participants. Other conditions included vitiligo (5.5%), systemic lupus erythematosus (2.5%), hyperthyroidism (2%), and psoriasis (1.5%). The findings highlight the importance of screening alopecia areata patients for autoimmune conditions, especially thyroid disorders.
