TLDR Bacopa procumbens extract may help protect the brain in Parkinson's disease.
The study examines the neuroprotective effects of Bacopa procumbens extract and the NAPEL formulation in a Parkinson’s disease model induced by MPTP in mice. Bacopa procumbens extract showed significant efficacy by activating transcription factors Nrf2, HSF1, and HIF-1α, which enhance antioxidant defense and reduce oxidative damage, thus promoting neuroprotection. Although the NAPEL formulation also demonstrated neuroprotective effects, it did not activate these pathways as effectively as Bacopa procumbens. The study involved 6 groups of 6 mice each, highlighting the potential of Bacopa procumbens as a therapeutic candidate for Parkinson’s disease, though further research is needed to validate these findings.
