TLDR Baricitinib effectively regrows hair in severe alopecia areata cases.
Baricitinib, recently approved by the FDA for severe alopecia areata, has shown promise in treating this condition, as well as COVID-19 and rheumatoid arthritis. In a report of two cases, patients with severe alopecia areata (SALT score = 100) were treated with baricitinib, resulting in favorable outcomes and complete hair regrowth over a 12-month follow-up. The treatment is cost-effective, minimally invasive, and requires no postoperative management, though safety and clinical implications should be considered before widespread use.
