Effectiveness of Baricitinib in Severe Alopecia Areata in Real Life: A Retrospective Study of 87 Patients

    TLDR Baricitinib is effective and safe for treating severe alopecia areata.
    This retrospective study evaluated the effectiveness and safety of baricitinib, an oral JAK inhibitor, in treating severe alopecia areata (AA) in 87 patients over a 52-week period. The results showed that 37.20% of patients achieved a significant reduction in hair loss, as indicated by a SALT score of 20, with a notable decrease in overall SALT scores (p < 0.001). The treatment was well-tolerated, with 72.40% of patients experiencing only mild or no adverse events and no serious adverse events reported. These findings support the use of baricitinib as an effective and safe option for managing severe AA in real-world settings.
