Bempikibart Shows Its Potential for Hair Regrowth in Alopecia Areata
April 2025
TLDR Bempikibart may help regrow hair in people with alopecia areata.
The phase 2 SIGNAL-AA trial investigated bempikibart, an IL-7/TSLP inhibitor, in 41 patients with severe to very severe alopecia areata. Participants were randomized to receive either bempikibart or a placebo. At week 24, those on bempikibart showed a significant reduction in the Severity of Alopecia Tool (SALT) score compared to the placebo group, with mean percentage changes of approximately 25% and 18% for different baseline SALT score ranges. The benefits persisted through week 36, even after stopping the drug, indicating a durable effect. Of the 12 responders who completed the trial, 7 experienced further hair regrowth post-treatment. The safety profile was favorable, with no severe adverse events reported. Further evaluation of bempikibart will continue in subsequent study phases.
