TLDR Histopathological examination is crucial to avoid misdiagnosis and ensure proper treatment for skin lesions.
This case report discusses a 65-year-old male patient who was clinically misdiagnosed with rhinophyma when he actually had multiple benign epidermal inclusion cysts on his nose. The cysts shared clinical features with rhinophyma, leading to treatment without preoperative histopathology. Postoperative histopathology revealed the true diagnosis, and the surgical excision and electrocautery treatment resulted in excellent cosmetic and functional outcomes. The report emphasizes the necessity of histopathological examination for ambiguous cutaneous lesions in the ear, nose, and throat to avoid misdiagnosis and ensure appropriate treatment.
