TLDR Berberine may help improve insulin sensitivity, hormone balance, and reproductive function in women with PCOS.
Berberine shows promise as a non-pharmacological intervention for women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), offering multiple benefits such as improved insulin sensitivity, better glycemic control, and enhanced lipid profiles by modulating key metabolic pathways. It also has antiandrogenic effects, reducing free testosterone and increasing SHBG levels, which help improve hormonal balance and reproductive function. While berberine appears to be a promising and well-tolerated adjunct or alternative therapy for PCOS, further high-quality studies are necessary to confirm its long-term efficacy and impact on reproductive outcomes.
