TLDR A new microneedle system effectively treats hair loss by delivering drugs directly to hair follicles.
The study presents a novel bio-inspired suction-cup microneedle platform, SC/MN@memPDA, designed to treat androgenetic alopecia (AGA) by delivering metformin directly to the dermal papilla. This system uses 300-µm microneedles with suction-assisted negative pressure for deeper insertion, mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles for controlled drug release, and a fusion membrane from M2 macrophages and dermal papilla cells for targeted delivery. The platform effectively reduces inflammation and oxidative stress, enhances hair growth, and offers a minimally painful, follicle-targeted therapeutic strategy for AGA.
