TLDR Natural extracts like kombucha, marine enzymes, and prebiotics can improve and restore damaged skin.
This study investigates the use of three natural origin biotech ingredients—kombucha, marine enzymes, and oligosaccharide prebiotic—to repair compromised skin barriers. Human skin explants were used to evaluate key skin barrier markers, and the ingredients were incorporated into an essence/toner applied to patients with compromised skin. The treatment improved skin barrier markers such as filaggrin and involucrin, and resulted in significant clinical improvements in skin hydration, comfort, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL). The study highlights the potential of these natural extracts in restoring skin health and addressing the effects of overprocessed skin.
