TLDR Nail abnormalities in children can indicate deeper health issues.
This case series highlights the importance of dermatologists in identifying congenital nail anomalies as indicators of underlying developmental or genetic conditions. It discusses three pediatric cases: a 4-year-old boy with nail dystrophy linked to symbrachydactyly, a 2-month-old boy with anonychia suggesting a developmental bony defect, and a 4-year-old girl with nail and hair abnormalities raising suspicion of Adams–Oliver syndrome. These cases demonstrate that careful evaluation of nail abnormalities can reveal deeper structural or genetic issues, emphasizing the need for comprehensive assessment for early detection and effective management.
