TLDR Over 50% of dermatology patients in Aseer, Saudi Arabia, use alternative treatments, often with satisfactory results.
The study examined the use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) among 353 dermatology patients in the Aseer region of Saudi Arabia, revealing that over half of the patients used CAM. Common CAMs included olive oil, sidr, and honey, with usage influenced by factors such as female gender, long-term skin conditions, and significant impact on life quality. The primary reasons for CAM use were dissatisfaction with medical drugs and their cost. The study emphasized the need for dermatologists to discuss CAM with patients to ensure safe practices, highlighting the importance of understanding patient preferences in dermatological care.
