TLDR The dog likely has a canine alopecia X-like disorder.
A 6-year-old spayed female Samoyed dog was evaluated for a 6-month history of non-pruritic alopecia on the hips and back, with hyperpigmentation in those areas. Despite a history of hypothyroidism and a urinary tract infection, the dog's condition was controlled with medication, and bloodwork showed no abnormalities. Tests for Cushing’s disease, skin scrapes, cytology, and cultures for dermatophytes and bacteria were all negative, suggesting a diagnosis of a canine alopecia X-like disorder. The dog was otherwise healthy and lived with another healthy dog, with no travel history outside the Southern United States.
