This study investigates the role of Cannabidivarin (CBDV), a non-psychoactive cannabinoid, in promoting postnatal neurogenesis in the subventricular zone (SVZ) through the TRPV1 receptor. CBDV enhances cell survival, proliferation, and neuronal differentiation of neural stem/progenitor cells (NSPCs) via a TRPV1-dependent mechanism, while inhibiting oligodendrocyte differentiation and maturation. The research involved SVZ neurospheres from C57BL/6J mice and demonstrated that CBDV reduces cell death and enhances cell proliferation, with these effects being inhibited by the TRPV1 antagonist 5′-iodoresinferotoxin. The study highlights CBDV's potential as a therapeutic target for neural stem cell repair strategies and suggests a complex role for TRPV1 in neural cell fate decisions.
