TLDR People with alopecia areata have more inflammation but similar heart risk as healthy people.
This observational case-control study investigated cardiovascular risk (CVR) and systemic inflammation in 72 participants, including 36 patients with alopecia areata (AA) and 36 healthy controls. The study found that patients with AA had higher systolic blood pressure and elevated systemic inflammation markers compared to controls, despite having similar CVR profiles. Additionally, patients with AA exhibited lower vitamin D levels. No association was found between CVR and systemic inflammation, nor were these factors linked to disease severity, duration, or treatment type. The findings suggest that while AA patients show increased systemic inflammation, it does not correlate with cardiovascular risk or disease characteristics.
