TLDR Chestnut flower extract may help reduce prostate cancer growth.
The study investigated the effects of Castanea sativa Mill. flower extract on prostate cancer in a rat model, involving 40 male Wistar Unilever rats divided into four groups. The extract, rich in trigalloyl-HHDP-glucoside, was administered in drinking water for 49 weeks. While no significant differences in tumorigenesis were observed between the induced and induced + CF groups, the extract reduced inflammation in the dorsolateral prostate lobe and alleviated hepatic oxidative stress, as evidenced by lower lipid peroxidation levels. These findings suggested that the extract possessed antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
