TLDR ChatGPT can be a helpful dermatology resource but should not replace professional consultations.
The study evaluated the appropriateness of ChatGPT's responses to common dermatology patient queries using the GPT-4 engine. Three experienced dermatologists assessed 93 responses to 31 questions across seven categories, including acne, atopic dermatitis, alopecia, psoriasis, rosacea, skin cancer, and miscellaneous. ChatGPT provided 88% appropriate and 12% inappropriate responses. While it performed well on questions about acne, rosacea, and skin cancer, it was inconsistent on topics like diet, naturopathic remedies, and antiaging treatments. The study highlights the potential of ChatGPT as a supplementary dermatology resource but emphasizes the need for professional consultations due to occasional inaccuracies and incomplete information.
