TLDR Interferon therapy is a promising and safe treatment for hepatitis B in Southeast Asia.
In 1988, a study was conducted in Southeast Asia to evaluate the treatment of chronic type B hepatitis using human lymphoblastoid interferon, with or without prednisolone pretreatment, compared to a placebo. The trial included 45 patients, with 29 receiving interferon and 16 receiving a placebo. The results indicated that interferon therapy was more effective than the placebo, despite some side effects such as flu-like symptoms, hair loss, and weight loss. These findings suggested that human lymphoblastoid interferon was an effective and safe treatment for chronic hepatitis B in Oriental patients.
