A New Classification of Early Female Pattern Hair Loss

    Akiko Kaneko, Tsuyoshi Kaneko
TLDR The new system helps detect and track early female hair loss better.
The study introduced a new grading system for early female pattern hair loss (FPHL) based on changes in hair surface reflection patterns observed in global photographs (GPs). A retrospective review of 114 patients classified their GPs into five grades, finding that higher GP grades correlated with increased hair diameter diversity and FPHL-severity index (FPHL-SI) values. The concordance rate of grading between the author and volunteers was 57%, while the concordance rate for course evaluation was 97%. The new classification system proved effective in finely classifying early FPHL and evaluating treatment progress, aiding in early detection and treatment assessment.
