    The study "Use of Clean versus Sterile Gloves—A Microbiological Study in 10 FUE Procedures" conducted 4 years ago concluded that there was no significant difference in scalp contamination during follicular unit excision (FUE) hair restoration surgery whether sterile or clean gloves were used. The study found that after 30 minutes of graft excision, the patients' scalps were equally contaminated regardless of the type of gloves used. The primary source of contamination was identified as the extensive microbiome of the hair follicles and other skin structures. The study also found that as the FUE procedure progressed, the microbiota recontaminated the operation site, irrespective of the sterility of the gloves. Furthermore, pre-surgery washing of the hair with iodine soap did not have any apparent aseptic effect.
