TLDR JAK inhibitors are recommended for severe alopecia areata if corticosteroids fail.
The consensus document on the clinical management of alopecia areata (AA) by the Spanish Hair Research Group outlines recommendations for treating AA, emphasizing the role of JAK inhibitors for extensive cases after corticosteroid failure. Developed using the Delphi method with input from 23 dermatologists, the document achieved agreement on 81% of 125 proposed items, categorized into five recommendation groups: generalities, localized AA, moderate AA, extensive AA, and special situations. The aim is to guide health professionals in managing AA using expert consensus and scientific evidence.
