TLDR PCOS and lifestyle choices like diet and hair removal methods play a key role in moderate hirsutism.
This study investigated the clinical profile and lifestyle factors in 300 women with hirsutism, finding that polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) was a major cause of moderate hirsutism, affecting 54.5% of these cases. Among the 85 confirmed hirsutism cases, 63 were mild and 22 moderate, with no severe cases. Women with moderate hirsutism exhibited more features of hyperandrogenism and frequently used multiple hair removal methods such as waxing, shaving, and threading. Additionally, these women consumed more non-vegetarian food, fried items, and alcohol, highlighting the significant role of diet and lifestyle in hirsutism. The study emphasizes the need to consider these factors in managing hirsutism.
