TLDR Recognizing rare hair loss patterns in young females can improve understanding and treatment.
This case report describes a rare occurrence of coexistent frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and ophiasis pattern alopecia areata (AA) in an 18-year-old female, a condition typically seen in older women. The patient exhibited skin-colored papules and hair loss patches, confirmed as FFA through biopsy. Treatment with isotretinoin, mometasone ointment, topical minoxidil, and intralesional triamcinolone acetonide led to complete symptom resolution after 8 weeks. The report suggests a potential shared pathophysiology between FFA and AA, highlighting the need for further research to understand their simultaneous occurrence.
