TLDR Collagen supplements may improve skin, joints, and recovery, especially with added nutrients.
This review examines the efficacy of oral collagen supplementation, drawing from over 60 clinical studies on its effects on skin aging, musculoskeletal health, and hair disorders. While evidence is inconsistent, hydrolyzed collagen peptides show potential benefits for skin elasticity, joint function, and exercise recovery, especially when combined with vitamin C, silica, or resveratrol. Advances in biosensing and material science have led to innovative methods for collagen detection and delivery, such as biosensors for real-time monitoring of collagen biomarkers and collagen-based materials for controlled drug release. These developments suggest a promising future for collagen-based interventions in precision dermatology and regenerative medicine.
