TLDR Combining oral prednisolone and topical minoxidil effectively reduces hair loss and promotes regrowth in alopecia areata.
The study conducted in Bangladesh evaluated the efficacy of a combination therapy for alopecia areata, involving oral prednisolone for 6 weeks followed by topical 2% minoxidil for 14 weeks. This noninvasive treatment was found to be a potentially effective remedy for hair regrowth, as the steroid component likely promoted hair growth through immunosuppression. The combination therapy showed promise in minimizing hair loss and encouraging regrowth. The study suggested that further research with a larger population was necessary to confirm these findings and improve treatment compliance.
