TLDR Chronic skin diseases and metabolic syndrome are linked by shared inflammation pathways.
This narrative review explores the strong association between chronic inflammatory skin diseases and metabolic syndrome, highlighting the role of pro-inflammatory chemokines such as CCL5/RANTES, CXCL12/SDF-1a, and others. These chemokines contribute to inflammation, a common feature in both skin diseases and metabolic syndrome. The review emphasizes shared inflammatory pathways, oxidative stress, and adipokine dysregulation as key factors, although the precise mechanisms remain partially understood. Skin conditions discussed include psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, alopecia areata, and others, with a focus on their pathological and molecular connections to metabolic syndrome.
