TLDR FUE is better than FUT for mustache reconstruction in cleft lip patients.
This study compared follicular unit extraction (FUE) and follicular unit transplant (FUT) techniques for mustache reconstruction in 40 male patients with cleft lip scars. The prospective, double-blind, randomized controlled trial found that FUE resulted in significantly better hair regrowth and fewer adverse effects than FUT. Evaluations were conducted using macro photography and a 10-point objective scale over 12 months. FUE showed higher scores at 1 month (7.50), 9 months (6.80), and 1 year (7.50), indicating superior outcomes compared to FUT.
