TLDR Connective tissue nevi have distinct features, and reflectance confocal microscopy is useful for early diagnosis.
The study analyzed the characteristics of connective tissue nevi using dermoscopy and reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) in a single patient. The dermoscopic features of lesions older than 1 year included gray-white patches with clear boundaries, white reticular structures, brown globules, erythema, and various vascular patterns. In contrast, lesions less than 1 year old showed fewer pigmented features. RCM revealed distinct patterns in early lesions, such as crowded dermal papillae forming a honeycomb or cobblestone structure, with increased brightness and density. The study concluded that connective tissue nevi have unique dermoscopic features that correlate with histopathology and RCM images, and RCM is particularly useful for diagnosing early lesions within 1 year.
