TLDR Curcumin and piperine may effectively and safely promote hair regrowth in alopecia.
The study investigates the potential of a curcumin and piperine combination as a natural treatment for alopecia, highlighting its phytochemical properties, antioxidant activity, and hair regrowth potential. The combination demonstrated moderate antioxidant activity with an IC50 of 75.08 µg/mL and maintained over 91.84% viability in human dermal papilla cells, indicating strong biocompatibility. In vivo tests on Wistar rats showed significant hair regrowth, suggesting its effectiveness in managing alopecia. The presence of phytochemicals like flavonoids and phenolic compounds contributes to its antioxidant and anti-androgenic properties. The study supports the combination as a promising and safe alternative to current treatments like minoxidil, warranting further clinical investigation.
