Cardiovascular Safety Of Low-Dose Oral Minoxidil For Androgenetic Alopecia In Patients With Hypertension Or Arrhythmias

    Low-dose oral minoxidil (LDOM) for androgenetic alopecia appears to have an acceptable cardiovascular safety profile in adults with stable hypertension or arrhythmias, based on a review of 20 studies. While LDOM generally caused small changes in blood pressure and heart rate, symptomatic hypotension and tachycardia were infrequent. However, the evidence is limited by retrospective designs and short follow-up periods. Rare cases of fluid retention or pericardial effusion necessitate clinical vigilance. Treatment should be individualized and coordinated with cardiovascular care, especially in patients with baseline instability or significant cardiovascular conditions.
